Here are our biggest hints, tips and advice for doing a great deep clean of your home and getting to some of those ‘hard to reach areas’ you might otherwise forget.
Cupboards & Drawers
Declutter and reorganise your kitchen and bathroom cupboards, and all the drawers throughout the home. Throw out or put into storage what’s not needed during the time your house is on the market.
Skirting Boards & Fans
Over the years, skirting boards and ceilings fans collect dust that we generally don’t see, mainly because we don’t pay attention to these areas. Clean the skirting boards with a rag and warm soapy water, and give the fans a good dust – a great tip is to use a pillow case to stop the dust spreading as you clean.
Steam Clean Carpets
Getting a professional to come in and steam clean your carpets will be an investment well worth the money. Not only will you be rid of all the nasties hiding in them, but it will leave each room smelling so fresh you’ll be wondering why you hadn’t done it earlier!
Wipe Walls, Doors, Light Switches
Leave no surface untouched. Wipe finger marks and dirt off all the walls, doors, cupboards and light switches. We love the Chux Magic eraser at our house – it removes crayon drawings off the wall and is great for cleaning shower screens!
Polish
Get to all your windows and screen doors – this has a twofold effect as clean windows and blinds will let more natural light into your home, something that all buyers are looking for! Don’t forget your chrome surfaces, try some baby oil on stainless steel splashbacks and throw your stove knobs and rangehood filters in the dishwasher to get them to shine as well!
To make deep cleaning as easy as possible, put all your cleaning supplies in a tote or bucket so you can carry everything with you, eliminate all the clutter before you start, and have a room-by-room checklist so you don’t miss any spots. Microfibre cloths are far superior to regular cleaning rags for collecting dust. Ensure to open all your windows to let in the fresh air. Your pre-sale home will thank you for it.
