If you have stairs in your two-storey house, there is a way to style them with the rest of the home when you’re preparing for a sale. It’s normal to forget the stairs, but you can showcase them as more than just a structural element. Here are some ways to help them define your style and make a statement to potential buyers.

Family photos
It’s common to have framed family photographs hanging on the walls along your staircase, because after all, they’re your way of reminding everyone of happy moments as you go from floor to floor every day. But it’s highly recommended those personal elements be taken away from the staircase when presenting to the public. Potential buyers want to see themselves living in your home, so the more effortless your stairway looks, the more appealing it will be to them. As much as you want to, leave no trace of ‘you’.

Clean it
Take to the vacuum, whip out the mop, get on your hands and knees and scrub each and every one of those steps, and include the banister or railing. Keep it as spectacular as the rest of your floors, with not a speck of dust in site. Cleaning is particularly important, and you’ll see the gleaming difference when you see the photos.

Leave it
As mentioned above with family photos, it’s equally important to just leave your stairway as plain and simple as possible. This includes getting rid of any runners from top to bottom and decorative accessories along the banister.

When potential buyers walk into your home, you want your staircase to reach out to them and show off the luxury of owning a two-storey house. Stage the steps as simply as possible, without the accessories, and you’ll see them sparkle during your home opens.
