There’s more behind styling a property than just hiring furniture to fill an empty room. The essence of property styling is to make your home appeal to as many potential buyers as possible by showcasing the potential of the space. I am often asked what types of properties benefit from property styling and the assumption is that only luxury homes will reap the reward at sale time. But the truth is that property styling is for everyone, with smaller homes and townhouses seeing the greatest monetary benefit.

When selling a home, everyone’s goal is the same – to sell quickly and for the best price possible. To do that you need to get more people to walk through the door, create competition and make those first impressions really count.

Not just for vacant homes

Selling a bare, empty property can be difficult so styling it will add warmth and character, but a lived-in home can benefit from styling just as much. A styled home has a different purpose to a lived-in property. A lived-in property has personal touches – family photos, clothes and belongings in the wardrobes and can become cluttered overtime. This clutter can make it hard for people to imagine how the room layout and how it can flow.

First impressions count

By now, you know that you only have one chance at a first impression, so when selling your home, it needs to be a good one. Styling your home helps to set the scene for a great first impression in all marketing material and your open homes. The way we live in our homes works for us but often doesn’t showcase a room’s features. It is fine for living but when it comes to selling up, it needs to change, and your marketing material needs to get home buyers wanting to see your property up close and personal.
