Same Floor Plan, Two Years Apart:

How Renovation and Styling Can Tell Two Very Different Stories

In property styling, it’s rare to see a direct before-and-after of what a smart renovation and strategic styling can truly achieve. But that’s exactly what this home offered – the exact same floor plan, styled two years apart, with a completely different result.

The transformation wasn’t just visual. It was emotional, functional, and buyer-focused. With updated finishes, a reimagined layout, and styling choices tailored to today’s market, the home told a brand-new story – one that felt brighter, more modern, and perfectly suited to the needs of a growing family.

Because in family-focused suburbs, it’s not just about square footage. It’s about how the space feels, flows, and fits into real life.

The biggest lesson? The same bones can tell a different story.

With updated finishes and a new colour palette, this home felt brighter, more functional, and tailored to a modern lifestyle.

For example, both homes had converted the original garage into internal space – a great way to add bedrooms or a home office. But there’s a trade-off. Buyers still place a lot of value on a secure, lock-up garage. This home solved it smartly, with an external carport and a lockable gate, as well as a detached double garage tucked into the back corner of the block.

When it came to styling, we didn’t just replicate what we’d done previously. We looked at what the renovation offered, what the space needed, and what would best appeal to family buyers.

Some key decisions included:

  • Using a round dining table instead of a rectangle, to better suit the space and soften the layout
  • Choosing upholstered dining chairs in the formal area for a more luxe feel (even if they’re not the most family-friendly in real life!)
  • Creating a sense of lightness in the darker areas of the home through tone, texture and furniture choices

It’s all about balancing function with visual impact – making the space feel inviting without overwhelming it.

In a family-focused area like Algester, layout is key. This home ticked the right boxes:

✔️ Five bedrooms

✔️ Double study

✔️ Two living and two dining areas

✔️ A pool and spacious yard

✔️ Walking distance to multiple schools

But layout alone doesn’t seal the deal. It’s the presentation that makes buyers feel like they belong.

One of the final takeaways from this install? Buyers in this area are looking for family-friendly homes with a warm, contemporary feel.

That’s why we stuck with on-trend colours like sage green (a softer evolution from the olive tones we’ve seen in past years), and styled to highlight space, flow, and flexibility.

| “It’s our job as stylists to know the predominant people that’ll be walking through the door – and make sure the space speaks to them.”
